Not all links are equal
If you are happy to see hundreds of backlinks pointing to your site and think that a large number of backlinks can get you a high page rank and targeted traffic. Think again!
Not all backlinks created are equal. Backlinks can be categorized on the basis of advantage or disadvantage we can have from them. Generally there are two types of backlinks. There are good links and bad links.
Don’t get confused let me explain it to you.
Good links
Backlinks to your site are considered good if they are from websites with high page rank and relevant content. A link form a high ranking websites carries more importance than a link from low ranking site. Relevancy factor also influence the weight age of a link.
For example a link from relevant PR0 site is more important than a link form irrelevant site with PR2.
Bad links
Differentiating bad links from good link is comparatively difficult and need some research at the end of link builder. If you don’t have good backlinks, you probably don’t loss (if don’t get) anything but bad links can damage your search engine rankings or even cause you a penalty from search engines.
If some one tries to sell their page rank by selling text link ads on their site or tires black hat SEO techniques, Google penalized the website by reducing the page rank or by awarding negative page rank. If you get links from site with bad reputation, low or even worse negative ranking, you may get penalty (lower or negative ranking), or get removed from the search engine index.
To check if the site is bad or not, you can view its Google page rank. If the bar is grayed out than the site would be a bad choice for linking. If the bar doesn’t show juice for a famous website than it can be a case where Google has lowered the page rank.
